Why is my mini split dripping or smelling musty?
Both usually come from the same place, a dirty blower wheel and coil growing mildew, or a clogged condensate drain backing up. A surface wipe of the filters will not fix it, because the growth is deeper in the head. We pull and deep clean the blower wheel and coil, clear the drain, and show you photos of the before and after so you can see the difference.
Why is my mini split iced up or blowing cold in winter?
A light frost on the outdoor unit in winter is normal and clears on the defrost cycle. Heavy ice that does not melt, or a head blowing cold when it should heat, points to a stuck defrost, low refrigerant, or an airflow problem, and each needs a different fix. We diagnose which one it is, show you what we found, and price the repair before starting.
How often do ductless heads need cleaning, and what is a deep clean?
A filter clean is the monthly rinse you can do yourself, and it keeps airflow up but does not reach the mildew. A deep clean pulls the blower wheel and coil out of the head and washes the parts a filter never touches, which is what actually clears the musty smell and restores airflow. Most systems need one every year or two, more often in homes with pets or heavy use.
What does the error code on my mini split mean?
The error code is a starting point, not the whole answer. We read the code, then verify the actual cause, which can be a sensor, a refrigerant issue, a communication fault, or the control board. With an unresponsive head, a dead remote battery or a tripped breaker is worth ruling out first, and we are happy to walk you through it before booking a visit.
How much does a mini split repair cost?
A service call is $150 per hour with a one-hour minimum, and any parts are billed separately. We diagnose the problem and tell you what the repair or cleaning will cost before we start, so the number you approve is the number you pay. If the system cannot be repaired, or replacement makes more sense, the quote for a new system is free.
When does repairing an old mini split stop making sense?
When the repair cost approaches a meaningful share of a replacement and the system is near the end of its service life. On a multi-zone system the outdoor unit serves every head, so a failure there weighs differently than one head needing work. We price the repair against what the system has left, with photos, so the decision stays yours.
